One of the cooler things about Fashion’s Night Out were the live windows and performances. Agent Provocateur on Madison had some deliciously provocative live window action happening and the photographers just could not resist.

the backstreets of lic. on Flickr.
My very first apartment after graduating from Queens College way back in ‘97 was in Long Island City. It was definitely a huge 180 from Bayside, and that was entirely the point. It was a long way off from becoming one of the hippest neighborhoods in Queens like it is today. It was a gritty, edgy area where you had to look over your shoulder at night.
The LIC of today may have their condos, but City Lights was not even 100% finished when I lived there, and I recall them having a very hard time getting tenants to move in as the neighborhood was very slim on amenities.
There are still parts of LIC that hark back to its industrial roots - you just have to ride through the backstreets over by the LIE. This was shot along the route of the Q67 which travels through LIC, Maspeth, and Middle Village.
